As the leading telecommunications provider in Australia, Telstra offers mobile, data, internet, and directory services. The company is continually exploring new products and services that will result in better environmental outcomes by paying particular attention to end-of-life product management and recycling throughout its operations. Telstra performs environmental audits on its suppliers, resulting in new environmental management systems and other environmental improvements for its suppliers. There are a variety of efforts in place to reduce the company's direct impact, including the use of alternative fuels in some of the company's vehicle fleet. Telstra is an active supporter of environmental issues and sponsors a number of different environmental foundations and programs. The company works with the Australian Environmental Protection Agency to promote energy efficiency, the UN's e-Sustainability Initiative, and the Mobile Phone Industry Recycling Program. Telstra is one of the largest solar energy consumers in Australia, as solar power is a great fit for its remote regional centers.
