Sony

Japan

Innovation and adaptability are hallmarks of the electronics industry. Recognizing the need to reduce environmental impacts, Sony has put its creativity to work and now offers a wind-up radio, an Eco TV, and solar remote controls. Sony has developed Green Partner Standards for suppliers; employs life cycle assessments; and offers recycling services for its products throughout the world. The company's development of "Cellu Mold" packaging, which is both recycled and recyclable (and replaces styrene), shows continued commitment throughout its business operations. Sony also works to reduce its environmental footprint outside of its electronics division. For example, Sony Music Communications became one of the first in the industry to attain Chain of Custody accreditation as part of its drive to use Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) paper for CD jackets and inserts. It has also introduced renewable energy at the recording studio. Portfolio 21 encourages Sony to continue working toward its challenging Green Management targets.
