Kurita Water Industries recognizes the planet's "deepening environmental crises . . . and that there is little time to spare." In this context, Kurita Water Industries is involved in two main segments: Water Treatment Facilities and Water Treatment Chemicals. The company's Water Treatment Facilities division supplies its customers with ultrapure water filtration systems, wastewater treatment and reclamation systems, soil and groundwater remediation services, and sewage treatment. Kurita's Water Treatment Chemicals segment uses traditional chemicals for water treatment, which reduce the environmental impacts of wastewater and enable the recycling of water; however, the manufacture and use of these chemicals have their own set of undesirable effects. Kurita is aware of these substances' environmental impacts, and is developing environmentally friendly materials and non-chemical water treatment processes that will further enable their customers to conserve energy and resources. While we commend these research and development efforts, Portfolio 21 is asking Kurita to improve disclosure on its chemical usage data and associated impacts.
