Deutsche Post
Germany
Deutsche Post is a leading logistics company and provider of global distribution services, domestic mail delivery in Germany, and global delivery service through its DHL Global Mail and DHL Express businesses. The company also operates Postbank, Germany's largest retail bank and a provider of various consumer and business financial services, including green investment options. Efficient transportation is an economic imperative for Deutsche Post and is a core competency. The company recognizes the significance of climate change, and has placed strategic importance on network efficiency, technological solutions, green products and services, and rail transportation systems. For example, Deutsche Post's mail delivery service in Germany makes extensive use of bicycles (fleet of 24,000), and the company is expanding its fleet of alternative fuel vehicles in Europe, as well as testing hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles globally. The company's GoGreen products provide customers with an option for reducing the impact associated with shipping by calculating and offsetting the carbon dioxide emissions associated with transporting the package. While this program only accounts for a small amount of its current business, Deutsche Post sees this as an area for growth and plans to continue to expand its services; Portfolio 21 applauds these efforts and will continue to monitor the development Deutsche Posts' GoGreen initiative.
