Autodesk

United States

Autodesk is a leading developer of two and three dimensional design software for architects, engineers, and those involved in the construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, and digital media industries. Many of the company's products provide 3D visualization and analysis of product design, building sites, natural and electrical lighting options, heating and cooling requirements, water and energy use, and green building material selection. These tools decrease the waste and environmental impacts of design processes by reducing paper consumption and the need for prototypes, as well as encouraging better initial designs due to the software's efficiency in highlighting design issues. In recognition of its products' potential, Autodesk has recently partnered with the U.S. Green Building Council with a goal of integrating its technology with the LEED rating system. Autodesk states: "There's little doubt that the need for sustainable design is critical as a solution to climate change and global warming. Our planet is facing an environmental crisis that can only be overcome if everyone pitches in to help-not just governments or environmental groups, but corporations as well." Autodesk has recently hired a Director of Sustainability and we have asked the company to provide transparent environmental reporting, and make greater efforts to communicate how its products support reduced environmental impacts.
