Adobe

United States

Adobe is a leader in electronic communications, publishing, and e-commerce technologies. When used appropriately, these clean technologies help individuals and businesses reduce their environmental impacts. Adobe recognizes the benefits of its products and services, which include cost savings from work efficiencies and the reduction of printing and distribution expenses. There are significant environmental benefits associated with this dematerialization and reduced transportation. For example, Rick Fedrizzi, CEO of the U.S. Green Building Council, states that 15,000-20,000 pieces of paper are saved per construction project by using Adobe's applications. Deutsche Post, another Portfolio 21 company, has praised the Adobe-created application that allows customers to download postage to their computers, thus reducing the number of trips to the post office. While Adobe provides several examples of how its products reduce environmental impacts, unfortunately, the company fails to leverage the market opportunities in making the environmental case for its products and services. While we firmly believe in the ecological advantages of Adobe's technologies, we have asked Adobe for greater environmental leadership, and will continue to engage the company to better link business strategy with sustainability.
