Upstream 21

Upstream 21 is a regional holding company in the Pacific Northwest that helps keep local companies local by creating a family of companies committed to sustainable business practices.

Upstream 21 challenges the corporate charter mandate that requires companies to maximize wealth for shareholders at the expense of the community, employees, and the environment. Upstream 21's articles of incorporation call for the best interests of all stakeholders to be balanced: employees; the environment; long-term as well as short-term interests of the company and its shareholders; customers and suppliers; and the communities in which the company and its subsidiaries operate.

There are currently three companies in the Upstream 21 family: Jefferson State Forest Products in Hayfork, CA; Roguewood Furniture in Grants Pass, OR; and Community Smallwood in Wallowa, OR. Upstream 21 has plans to add more companies as well as to expand operations within the existing companies.
